Wristbands are a Fun Reward for Academic Success
Finally, with wristbands, kids have embraced a trend that their parents can use to motivate them to work harder in school. The wristbands that kids have deemed to be "must have" items are small, colorful bands made of a safe, synthetic material, Tyvek. Wristbands are an inexpensive way for parents to reinforce the idea that learning and fun go together.
Anyone can use wristbands as rewards. It does not matter whether your children attend public or private school or if you homeschool them. You can also use wristbands to reward children who continue their education during the summer and other school breaks.
Let your children help you set the benchmarks. Tie the goals to specific requirements set by their schools or other authority governing their education. Include a mix of goals that they will have to stretch themselves academically to achieve with goals they can reach fairly easily. Goals can include, reading a certain number of books by a certain date or receiving a minimum grade on an exam. Make a big deal out of each time you hand out a wristband.
Wristbands work well as rewards because you can assign different colors to different levels of achievement. Give them their favorite color wristbands when they reach the top goals. You can also purchase custom made wristbands that you personalize with text or simple graphics.
The wristbands will remind your kids of the work that they put into receiving the wristband. You cannot be with them to provide encouraging words or an uplifting smile at all times during their academic career. However, during those moments when they are alone and may face doubts about their abilities, they can look at their wristbands and see that they succeeded in the past and they can succeed now.
